Today is “Friday, the 13th” so maybe we should be able to expect this kind of gloom. Frankly, I’ve tried to keep these blogs positive, in terms of supporting a better quality-of-life experience for everyone, regardless of their political bias. Any proposed legislation will invariably be favored by some and opposed by others. That causes our deliberative government process to be a lot slower. But it also means various bills have been discussed “endlessly.”
Ultimately, we’ve all agreed to abide by the majority decision. One time it’s led by our preferred person or party; the next time, someone else. I recall a comment attributed to Benjamin Franklin that the stumbling and fumbling may ultimately be what ensures our freedom. However, this act is not the result of deliberation by people elected to be lawmakers, it’s autocratic.

First Thing: Trump repeals landmark climate
finding in gift to ‘billionaire polluters’
Obama says rollback will make Americans ‘less safe’.
The Guardian
Fri 13 Feb 2026
Donald Trump has revoked the scientific finding that allows the federal government to regulate climate-heating pollution, in a move described as a gift to “billionaire polluters” at the cost of Americans’ health.
Since 2009, the endangerment finding, which states that the buildup of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere endangers public health and welfare, has given the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the basis to limit heat-trapping pollution from vehicles, power plants and other industrial sources.
Donald Trump called the move …
“the single largest deregulatory action in American history.”
Barack Obama said the repeal will leave Americans …
“less safe, less healthy and less able to fight climate change
– all so the fossil fuel industry can make even more money”.
The former secretary of state John Kerry and environmental advocates also condemned the move.
- How will it be resisted?
Multiple environmental groups have pledged to take the EPA to court over the rollback, as has the state of California.

Historically, President Trump has always led a small, private sector company. A leader in that type of organization is accustomed to making the key decisions. In fact, employees hang their hats on their belief in that leader.
If that’s the only leadership style President Trump has known, why would voters expect something different? Adding comments from D …
”The foundation for addressing climate change is based on the scientific work of 2009 reports from EPA. When Mr. Trump is choosing to ignore almost forty years of scientific discovery about climate change and what it does, he is not laying a foundation for all Americans; only for a few.
“Climate change affects all of us in many ways.
“By changing air regulations, he is affecting our health. At a simple level, this means more asthma and other respiratory ailments. It also affects our immune system. He will be adding pollution to all our cities. He will be affecting weather patterns. The weather will get more severe … more fires, more storms, and a lot less predictability.
“He will also be affecting industry. America will fall behind in technology to address climate change, like solar panels. But also, for instance, cars made in America will not be able to be sold in other countries because the standards will not meet the air standards of other countries.
“He is fueling change for the few and risking the rest of us.
”You, dear reader, need to be more cognizant of where you live – for example not being near where many storms begin, or where forest fires have been at high potential, or where rivers can quickly overrun their banks. Have more trees around your home or workplace to filter the air. Drive an electric car or use public transportation, to keep down the pollutants in the air.
“As uncomfortable as it may be, you may need to move to a safer and healthier place.”
